Arriving in Euskadi is synonymous with moving to a region full of history and its own culture, the last passage of the Pyrenees to the Atlantic Ocean, and the ever-intense green of meadows and forests that surround the small villages that remain intact over time.

Sharp edges of rocam make up the Basque mountains, sculpted over the years by the karst phenomena and which give rise to numerous caves, precipices and ravines. Shelter and refuge in very distant times, there are still several dolmens hiding among the damp vegetation, and the Basque language, the language of those ancient settlers, continues in the day to day life of its inhabitants.

Territories where sea and mountain share the path, where the harmony of large cities coexist in an intact natural environment. Land of traditions and own culture, walking through any of its streets or trails is an authentic experience.

Strong points:

  • Basque Country, own culture and language
  • Landscape modeled by the Atlantic climate
  • Coastal trails at sea
  • Traditional charm towns, large cities like
  • Donosti
  • Popular "Pintxos"
  • Caves, caves ...
  • Dolmens
  • Summits with great views of all the Basque territory

Itinerary:

  • Day 1: Arrival in Euskadi

Transfer day to Asteasu where we will have the lodging in a typical "hamlet" in the middle of a unique and incomparable place.

  • Day 2: Artikutza Forest

Artikutza is a forest of magicians, fairy tale, where moss takes every corner and where the trees grow without pausing. For this reason it has become a natural reserve where we will find one of the most amazing forests in all of the Basque territory. Despite the passage of time, some villages coexist between the great beech woods, keeping themselves away from civilization, time seems to stop in some of these places. Back, we will walk along the river that nourishes these forests, cold and crystalline waters, an ideal place for bathing for the most daring!

    Distance: approx. 12km, 400m slope

  • Day 3: Ascension to Aizkorri, Aizkorri Natural Park - Aratz

One of the topics of the Basque fortress, a land famous among the "La Zegama" runners, we are on the summit of Aizkorri! Privileged views from the summit, the great plain of Alava, the Moncayo, the sea or the Pyrenees, and surrounded by a totally karstic environment, we will finish the day crossing the mountain through the curious tunnel of San Adrián.

    Distance: approx. 15km, 800m slope

  • Day 4: From Pasaia Dobaine to Donosti along the coastal path

Nature modeled an ideal harbor in the Bay of Pasaia: the waters are protected from the great waves of the Atlantic by the high cliffs that make up it. We will begin to walk on the paved streets of Pasaia Dobaine, sharing the path with pilgrims going to Santiago, where we will have to take a small boat to cross the bay. Once in Pasaia San Pedro, we will follow the coastal path along the cliffs that Monte Ulia forms when falling to the sea, in a territory where the lush greenery has been hiding tunnels, aqueducts and ancient fishing constructions, witnessing the old offices in the area . Always by the sea, we will arrive to Donosti, for losing among the streets of its old quarter and tasting the popular skewers. To finish the day, a bath in La Conxa!

    Distance: approx. 12km, 500m slope

  • Day 5: The last vestige of the Pyrenees: Peñas de Aia

As an isolated mountain range in the middle of nowhere, the three peaks of Aiako Harria turn out to be one of the best viewpoints in all of the Basque geography. We will encircle these great granite walls, the last vestige of the Pyrenees, through forests of beech trees and ascend to one of its magnificent peaks.

    Distance: approx. 13km, 500m descent

  • Day 6: Zumaia, the oldest geological history written in the sea

From the fishing village of Zumaia, we will return again to the pilgrims' route to Compostela, going through a highly valuable geological setting: the Flysch. These are rock formations that allow us to know the history of our territory thousands of years ago. Following meadows and cliffs with great views, we will reach the center of Deba to return by train to Zumaia again.

    Distance: approx. 12km, 300m descent

  • Day 7: Cova de Sarastarri, Natural Park of Aralar

We say goodbye to Euskadi visiting the Natural Park D'Aralar, already in border territory between Gipuzkoa and Navarra. Territory where agricultural activity is still preserved, we will discover its mining past as well as numerous dolmens in an area with a long history. But our goal, the surprising cave of Sarastarri, hidden among beech trees, and which hides a gorgeous lagoon in its interior.

    Distance: approx 12km, 400m slope

  • Day 8: Donostia

Tomorrow at the beautiful city of Donostia, San Telmo, Playa de la Concha, etc. Then return trip home.

The Artikutza forest is a truly magical place where we walked amidst some huge beech trees

The Gerdar forest, on horseback between the counties of Pallars Sobirà and the Vall d'Aran, has the largest spire extension of the Iberian Peninsula. Going through its shady paths is an experience for the senses: wood smell, moisture, the silence of our steps or the traces of the animals that watch us behind the trees, discovering among the vegetation the bluish waters of the Black Lake of Cabanes. An idyllic place!

The Montsant is like a great castle surrounded by powerful walls and that you have to discover to be surpassed by the different degrees to enter the mountain. Everything goes little by little, time stops. It has not yet been touched by the great tourism and has undergone very little transformation. All of Montsant is surrounded by small villages that live in agriculture. We will discover it in three days, enjoying its mountain ranges, accessing its hidden treasures and enjoying the fruit of its land, wine.

Strong points:

  • Circular route that will allow us to know the most emblematic places of the Montsant
  • Awesome paths between cliffs with strategic steps.
  • La Vall del Silenci, which runs through the Montsant river
  • The hermitages of Sant Bartomeu de Fraguerau and the one of Sant Salvador de Margalef

Itinerary:

  • Saturday 8 June: Morera del Montsant - Serra Major - Ermita Sant Antoni

From La Morera de Montsant we will climb through one of the degrees that allow us to overcome the great rock steps, enjoying the whimsical forms of the mountain. Once passed, we will reach Serra Major, a great ridge with views from all sides, from the Pyrenees to the sea. By reaching small peaks along the path, we will reach Toll d'O Ou, a surprising and refreshing site! Continuing along, we will discover some baubles hidden between lush vegetation and, when we get there, we will arrive at the Refugi de Sant Antoni where we will spend the night.

  • Domingo 9: La Vall del Silenci - Margalef

After breakfast, we will enter into a landscape totally different from the previous day, known as the Valle del Silencio. We will begin the day following the waters of the Montsant river surrounded by high walls full of holes and bauxas that had formerly been shelter of shepherds and hermitages, to finally reach the dark waters of the Pantano de Margalef. Surrounded by vertical walls, mecca of climbing worldwide, we will reach the small village of Margalef to stay at his shelter.

  • Monday 10: Sant Salvador de Margalef - La Cogulla - Morera del Montsant

We will leave towards Sant Salvador de Margalef, a beautiful hermitage built in a large bay where we will return to access the Serra Major and we will reach the summit of Cogulla (100 peaks).
Already back to La Morera, we will enter the Clot del Cirer, one of those magical places that hides the massif from where we will return to La Morera, surpassing the last degree now descending.

The peace that breathes in the Valley of Silence gives you peace of mind

Our destiny

42.3209,2.48015

This time we want to offer you a very interesting journey through Alta Garrotxa. Departing from Sadernes, we will go to Beget going through the Vall d'Aniol and the Pic de les Bruixes. The next day we will return to Sadernes on a completely different path, passing through ancient nuclei, hermitages, strategic steps, emblematic valleys, etc. All in the heart of the Alta Garrotxa.

We will spend a night in Beget that is very good, there we will find the good food of the renowned Hostal del Forn and also a well-deserved rest.

Strong points:

  • Tour of the heart of the Alta Garrotxa, on paths that were once so busy for peasants, charcoal, bandits and trabucaires.
  • The Romanesque Art, manifested mainly in The Majesty of Beget, Sant Miquel d'Hortmoier, etc.
  • The good Garrotxa food of Hostal del Forn
  • Landscape richness.

Itinerary:

  • Saturday 23: Sadernes - Sant Aniol - Pic de les Bruixes - Beget

At 9 in the morning, we will leave Sadernes towards the beautiful cloister of Sant Aniol, from here we will go up to the Pic de les Bruixes, which will offer us beautiful views of the Alta Garrotxa and also of the Pyrenees. We will continue along the Basses de Monars until reaching Beget. Slope: + 1000m, -750m, 7 hours of effective gear at a slow pace.

  • Sunday 24: Beget - Hortmoier - Talaixà - Sadernes

After a good breakfast we will leave towards the Riberal de Beget until La Farga to climb the hill towards Coll de Muls, where we will enter the Valley of Hortmoier that will cross it all until arriving at Talaixà where the friends of the Center Excursionista d ' Olot has done a good job of restoring the old house of Rodri to make a refuge. After that, we only have to go down to Pont d'en Valentí i Sadernes. Slope: + 650m, -750m. 6-7 hours of effective gear at a slow pace.

Within the overwhelming geography of the Alta Garrotxa, small, humble and small Romanesque churches are hidden, some of them suspended in front of large panoramic views and others hidden in the depths of the gorges, full of extinct privacy such as Sant Aniol d'Aguja

We are located in the region of Alto Gállego, to cross the Valley of Tena, where it is said that the Pyrenees is present in pure state. And despite being one of the most populated areas of the Aragonese Pyrenees, its territory has a great diversity of landscapes: from the 600 meters to the large three-mile, water, cascades, forests and the imprint that the ancient volcanoes leave present in the colors of these lands.
The inhabitants of this valley have been able to unite progress and traditions. The stone houses continue to show shingles and tile roofs of double inclinations, between old alleys. Bigger and smaller, the villages of the region maintain all the Pyrenean charm.
It is impossible not to stop looking at the spell that emerge from some peaks of this land: Anayet, Midi d'Osseau or Picos Infiernos. Mountains stuffed with legends, our steps can not be but enchanted.

Strong points:

  • Climb to summits: Vértice del Anayet, Pacino, Peyreget ..
  • Typical villages of tense architecture: Sallent de Gallego, Lanuza, Hoz de Jaca, Panticosa ...
  • Great diversity of statues: Ibons, waterfalls, forests, natural bath places!
  • History and legends of the area.

Itinerary:

  • Day 11: Knowing the region of Alto Gallego

Leading Tena Valley, Sallent de Gallego will be our starting point to discover the charms of this region. We will follow the Aguas Limpias river, from Cascada del Salto to the resurrected town of Lanuza, continuing along the natural path of the Embalse that will make us understand how to live in this area.

A path full of stories attributed to the use of water.
    13km, 350m

  • Day 12: Ascension to Tosquera and Pico Pacino, watchtowers of the region

Nothing better to focus on climbing a couple of peaks, fantastically located, to see the whole environment that awaits us in the coming days.

    13km, 750 m

  • Day 13: Ibones and Vértice de l'Anayet

One of our favorite places of all the Pyrenees.

A magical place, where we will walk on the petrified remains of an ancient volcano and the colors that have been impregnated in these lands. Some views you will not forget. One of those essential places!

    15km, 950m

  • Day 14: Ibon de Piedrafita and Bosato Betato

We travel through the alleys of Piedrafita de Jaca, we will enter into the shadow of the lush Bosc de Betato, from where we will make our way to Ibon de Piedrafita. Headed by Peña Telera and the Sierra de Partacua, this lake will not leave us indifferent. We will follow the route between rocam and pastures to the peculiar Arco de Piedra, and with spectacular views we will return to Piedrafita.

    15km, 700m

  • Day 15: The balconies of the Midi Ossau

We will cross the border through the curious passage of Portalet from where the first vision of the Osseau Midi will leave us fascinated. Once on French ground, we will look for the best photograph of this great stone mole doing a journey through the huts that surround it in a terrain filled with lakes and fabulous views.

    12km 900m

  • Day 16: Balneario de Panticosa - Ibones de los Azules

From the historic Panticosa thermal station, we will begin the ascent following the GR11 and the numerous waterfalls that form the Caldares river to reach the refuge of Bachimaña.

Surrounded by the great summits of the area, we will continue until the Ibones Azules, known as the "Caribbean of the Pyrenees", you will easily understand it with the color of its waters.

    15km, 850m

  • Day 17: A walk through history: Santa Elena-Hoz de Jaca-Panticosa

We will walk among some of the most stressed villages, discovering their typical architecture and enjoying the great views of their sites. Along the way, we will find many vestiges of past times: dolmens, hermitages and the old defense line P, where the challenge is to look for the bunkers that are hidden in the lush vegetation.

Following the river and with some walk in the bathroom in one of those idyllic places, we will reach the old town of Panticosa.

    13km 500m
