Our destiny


Iceland, also called the Island of Fire and Ice, is one of the most magical places on Earth, where you can discover lava fields, gigantic glaciers, monumental waterfalls, snowy peaks, black sand beaches, austere deserts, green mosses, nature reserves and a variety of geothermal shows on the same trip! In this 10-day hiking adventure we will limit ourselves to the South of the island, where we will walk through the most fascinating places and were left astonished when we went to explore it.

An island of extremes and contrasts, Iceland will delight any hiker in love with nature. Notable sites include the Strokkur geyser (the most active in Iceland), Vatnajökull (the largest glacier in Europe) and its iceberg lagoon, Jökulsarlón. Or Landmannalaugar, where the most famous trekking on the island begins, and with its characteristic colors of rhyolite and fumaroles, you will be impressed.

In September there is the chance to see the Aurora Borealis !!!!!

Itinerary:

Day 1: September 2. Direct flight from Barcelona to Iceland

Arrival at Keflavik airport at 8:40 in the morning. We will head to the Golden Triangle, visit Thingvellir where the first Parliament was in 930 and also where there is a crack of tectonic plates of exceptional size for a walk (approx. 3 hours). Then we will go to Geysir (1h hike) and Gulfoss (1h hike). Transfer to Hella where we will sleep. Sleep in Hotel

Day 2: September 3. Landmannalaugar

Transfer to Landmannalaugar where we can enjoy the fascinating colors of the rhyolite mountains and also the fumaroles that we will find along the way (6 hour walk). Sleep in Hotel.

Day 3: September 4. Skaftafell / Vatnajökull National Park

We will head to Skaftafell / Vatnajökull National Park. On the way we will stop at the Seljalandsfos waterfalls where we will take a short hike and then we will head to the beautiful and fascinating lake Jökulsárlón where we will see the icebergs that come out of the ice that falls on this lake. We can walk around. Sleep in Hotel

Day 4: September 5. Svartifoss - Kristinantindar

Transfer to Skaftafell Visitor Center, from there we will walk to the beautiful Svartifoss Waterfall (2,5 hour hike). Then, weather permitting, we can continue climbing to the summit of the Kristinantindar of 1126m, from where we will enjoy breathtaking views of the Vatnajökull glaciers (5-hour hike). We will return to sleep in the same Hotel.

Day 5: September 6. Skaftárhreppur - Vik

On the way to Vik, we will stop at the ghost of Skaftárhreppur, beautiful for its greenery (approx. 1 hr walk) and then continue to Vik, a beautiful village on the south of the island, where we can walk on the cliffs that fall to the sea, on top of a black sand beach (hike, 4h approx). Next we will go to Dyrhólaey (walk, 30 min). And transfer to the accommodation, in Skogafoss.

Day 6: September 7. Skogafoss

Beautiful hike through the more than 20 waterfalls on the Skoga river, with the impressive and at the same time beautiful Skogafoss waterfall (5-6h walk). Return to the Hotel

Day 7: September 8. Seljalandfoss - Þórólfsfell

We will pass the fascinating waterfall of Seljalandfoss and then continue on the road to the foot of the 560m Þórólfsfell Volcano. The climb is done without a definite path, but if the day is clear we can enjoy breathtaking views of the Þórsmörk Valley and also the volcano that erupted in 2012 and collapsed European air traffic with its ashes, the Eyafjallajökull (4-5 hours hike). Sleep in Hotel

Day 8: September 9. Hengill - thermal baths

We will walk to the geothermal area of ​​Hengill (hike 4-5 hours). We can also enjoy thermal baths in this river of hot water. At the end we will go to Reykjavik. We will sleep in Hotel.

Day 9: 10 September. Reyjkavik

Free day to travel around the city of Reyjkiavick and in the evening transfer to the airport for the return flight to Barcelona.

Difficulty

Moderate, between 4 and 6 hours of slow-moving gear with slopes of no more than 700m. We will only carry the equipment of the day.

In Iceland, accommodation is scarce and expensive. During this route we have chosen 3 * Hotels in double rooms with private bathroom to make the trip more comfortable.

Meals

Breakfasts are all included in the program. For lunches (picnics) we can prepare each participant, we will buy in the supermarkets and we can also bring home items such as sausages, cheese, etc. Dinners can be made in the restaurants of the same hotels or also nearby.
